My Mom

Good morning all,

What a beautiful morning we are having here on this sunny winter’s day in South Africa! The sun is shining, the birds are singing and I’m feeling totally at peace. You see, I received a message yesterday that I really needed to hear and the result will definitely go onto my list of gratitudes!

My whole life I believed that my relationship with my Mother was not what it should have been and I always felt closer to my maternal Grandmother. I remember that I was always comparing it, and was envious of, the loving and close relationships my friends had with their Mothers. My Mom has passed on so it was something I couldn’t discuss with her to try and understand it, and I felt stuck with feelings of resentment towards her because it was too late to “fix”.

After my message yesterday, I now want to say……

“Dear Mom, thank you so much for being the person that you were. You were a single mom of 3 children, one of whom is deaf and who had to attend a special school far away from home. You had to move in with your parents and often worked 2 jobs to make ends meet because you had no support from our father. You did the best you could under the circumstances. I am the strong, loving, caring, independent person I am today because of the lessons I learned from you. I have a wonderful relationship with my children because I decided that I wanted a different relationship with them to the one I had with you.  For this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul. Rest in peace Mom, lots of love and hugs, your daughter, Doris”.

This realisation and learning has been sooo cathartic for me. I feel as though a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders and my growth has taken one HUGE leap!

I’m sharing this because I want the same for you. Get rid of any resentments you have been harbouring by changing the way you look at situations. “Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change!” This will allow you to forgive, put it behind you and move on. I believe that life is made up of lessons we must learn from, in order to grow and be the best we can be, for ourselves and everyone around us!

Makes you think, doesn’t it?

Until next time…………

All my love and hugs,

Doris
